Handwashing with soap and routine immunisation are two of the most cost-effective ways of preventing disease outbreaks

Paul Polman has been CEO of Unilever since January 2009. He is a member of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocacy Group and helped establish the Business and Sustainable Development Commission.

His commitment to preventing childhood diseases is exemplified by the partnership between Unilever’s Lifebouy germ protection soap brand and Gavi, which seeks to combine Lifebuoy’s marketing and behaviour change interventions on the importance of handwashing with soap, with Gavi’s messaging on the importance of vaccination to deliver joint demand generation.
